Denise Burns (A86) Walks for Sister's Memory

My sister Brenda was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer last Mother's Day. She fought hard but died from the illness on September 16. She was an incredible strong single Mom with two boys who now live with me. On June 14 - 15, I am walking in the Relay for Life in my sister Brenda's memory and looking for sponsors. Our team, "Team Brenda" has 68 walkers registered. Last year with only 2 weeks after my sisters diagnosis to put together a team we had 33 walkers and raised over $13,000.

I hate asking for sponsors. That said...

There are different ways you can sponsor the walk. You can purchase a luminaria for $5 that will be lit during the overnight walk in memory of someone you lost to cancer or in support of a cancer survivor. Or you can make a flat donation to the American Cancer Society.

If you are interested in sponsoring, you can mail me a check made payable to the American Cancer Society. If you are purchasing a luminaria, please put the name of the person you want it lit for and whether they are a survivor or not, on the bottom notes part of the check. example "luminaria for John Doe - survivor."

My sister Claire is the team captain and investigated the portion of the money that actually goes to cancer research. It is 85%.
